Graduation Speech
Welcome family, friends, and my fellow classmates. When Mrs Joyner told us to write a graduation speech, I had no idea where to begin or what to write. How can you fit all the memories at Golf Middle School and all these feelings into a minute-long speech? Words can't express how thankful I am to have spent my elementary and middle school years in this district and they can't express how sad I am about leaving it.
I would like to thank my teachers, for teaching me and for helping me when I needed it. I would like to thank my family, for dealing with me when I was the most cranky and stressed. And I would like to thank my friends, for cheering me up and lightening up my mood when I was feeling down.
And for the future-eighth graders...Let me just say this. You're probably bored and spacing out right now because that was me when I was forced to watch these award assemblies. But in a few years, you're going to be like me again, standing up here about to graduate alongside your friends. But before you come up here, there are some things I hope will happen.
I hope you see Golf Middle School as your second home, where you can be yourself without being afraid...like I did. I hope you see Golf Middle School as a place where you can find help and comfort from teachers and students alike...like I did.
I hope you create close bonds with your classmates and I hope you feel the same sadness of leaving them...like I am feeling right now. And finally, even though graduating 8th grade and moving on to meet new friends, teachers, and opportunities is something to celebrate, I hope you future- graduates will greatly miss this wonderful group of people and school...like I already do right now. The famous Dr. Suess once said, "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory". I have never agreed more with Dr. Suess in my life. Now that I'm standing here with the end of 8th of grade approaching quickly, I wish I took advantage of my time as an 8th grader at this school.
Those little moments the class of 2018 shared together like singing at the bonfire at Camp MacLean and playing Gaga Ball are now only memories. The class of 2018 has been together since day one, and the fact that I probably won't talk to them as much in high school makes me not want to go even more. Our grade may be small, but that's how I like it. Mr. Atwood always says, "Quality over quantity" and I feel like I've spent my childhood with the highest-quality people in the highest-quality school. In a couple of months, I'll be in high school. I'll have moved on to greater things, but this District 67 will always have a place in my heart that I will always carry with me throughout high school, college, and beyond. Thankyou for listening.
