"This wasn't my choice!" Aaliyah hissed at Joanna from behind. "Well if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't even be stuck in here in the first place!" Joanna snapped back. She desperately tugged at the rope that tied her hands to the metal pole behind her, hoping it would make a difference, but it kept its tight hold on her. That rope would give her a rash that would last for weeks.
Aaliyah still hadn't said anything back, and Joanna wanted it to stay that way. Talking to her was the last thing she felt like doing with all the fury she was feeling. Joanna didn't know why she even trusted Aaliyah. She should've known better. All Aaliyah ever did was get them into trouble, and this time was no different. Except for the fact that all of their money, their phones, and just about everything else they had with them was gone, and that they were going to be stuck sitting under a broken lamplight at an abandoned park the whole night.
Joanna remembered the day before, when Aaliyah was so obsessed with fountain pens that she was willing to meet somebody who was "selling" an expensive pen with gold lining. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why did Joanna go along with this? How did she think meeting somebody at night at a deserted place was a good idea? What was she going to do now?
Joanna didn't know how to answer any of these questions in the 10 minutes she sat in silence. But soon after, she realized something she was so oblivious to before. A glass piece, which probably was a piece of the broken light above, was only a couple of feet way from her. It was only 1/2 of an inch or so big, but even the smallest tool would have been convenient at the moment.
"Aaliyah!" Joanna whispered, trying to get Aaliyah's attention, who was sitting behind her tied to the other side of the pole. "There's broken glass in front of me!"
"Well then get it!" Aaliyah replied, obviously still angry. Joanna reached out her foot and tried moving the fragment towards her with the heel of her shoe. She tried giving it one big push, and the piece moved close enough to her hand to pick up. Once she did, Johanna let out a huge sigh. She just had to cut through the rope that bound her hands.
It was a slow process, but eventually, Johanna knifed through her and Aaliyah's captors. Now, all they had to do was find whoever stole their belongings. Oh, and explain what happened that night to their parents.
